Luau safety & moderation.

Last updated: May 6, 2026

Luau is for getting people together, in real life. That only works if you feel safe inside the app. This page explains how to report content or behavior that doesn't belong, how blocking works, how fast we respond, and how to appeal if you think we got something wrong.

For anything urgent or sensitive, email us at privacy@luau.co.

1. How to report something

You can report any event, host, mutual, or other user from inside Luau.

From the iOS app

  • An event — open the event, tap the menu in the top-right, then Report event.
  • A user (host or mutual) — open their event or mutual page, tap the menu, then Report.

You'll be asked to pick a reason and (optionally) add a few sentences of context. Your report goes straight to our moderation team.

We never tell the person you reported that you were the one who reported them.

2. What we look at

We accept reports for:

  • Spam — unwanted promotional content or impersonation of a service.
  • Harassment or bullying — targeted abuse, threats, or sustained unwanted contact.
  • Hate speech — content that attacks people based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics.
  • Nudity or sexual content — explicit content shared without consent or in an inappropriate context.
  • Violence or threats — credible threats of harm against people, animals, or property.
  • Impersonation — pretending to be a real person, brand, or organization.
  • Something else — anything else that feels off. Use the optional notes to tell us why.

3. How blocking works

Blocking is separate from reporting. You don't have to do both — block someone if you just want them out of your way; report them if their content needs review.

When you block someone:

  • They disappear from your mutuals list and from mutual search results, in both directions.
  • You can't directly invite each other to events or co-host together.
  • Shared events stay visible. If a third party invited you both to the same party, the guest list and potluck contributions still show as normal — blocking is about your direct social surfaces, not third-party-mediated context.
  • Kai conversations are private to each user. Blocking has no effect there because no one can see another user's Kai chat anyway.

You can unblock someone any time from the same menu.

4. How fast we respond

We commit to reviewing every report within 24 hours.

The clock starts when the report hits our queue. Most reports are handled the same day; a small number (genuinely ambiguous cases, weekend submissions of less-urgent content) take the full window. If you ever see a delay you think is unreasonable, email privacy@luau.co and we'll escalate.

5. What we might do

After review, we might:

  • Take no action — the content didn't violate our rules.
  • Hide the content — the event, contribution, or other item is removed. The reported user is notified that their content was removed and why.
  • Warn the user — for first-time, low-severity issues.
  • Suspend or ban the user — for severe issues, repeat offenses, or content we cannot leave up.

Severe categories — credible threats, content involving minors, doxxing — are escalated immediately and may result in a permanent ban without a warning step.

6. How to appeal

If you were on the receiving end of an action — your event was hidden, you were warned, your account was suspended — and you think we got it wrong, email privacy@luau.co with:

  • The email address or phone number on your Luau account
  • A short description of what happened and why you think it was a mistake
  • Anything else you'd like us to consider

A different team member will re-review. We'll get back to you within five business days. If we agree we got it wrong, we'll restore the content or account.

7. Things we won't do

  • We won't tell the person you reported that you were the one who reported them.
  • We won't share your report with anyone outside Luau, unless we're legally required to.
  • We won't moderate based on viewpoints we just disagree with — only on the rules above.
