# How guests sign up

> What guests see on the board before and after RSVPing, how claiming works, what Going, Maybe, and Can't can do, and how to change or cancel a sign-up.

Guests don't need the app: the board opens in any browser from the invite link, and the iPhone app shows the same board natively.

## Before you RSVP

Everyone who can open the event can see the **Group Effort** board: each role and supply, how many spots or items are still open, and a summary at the top (*48 volunteer spots and 13 supply items still needed*). Until you RSVP you see counts (*1 person has signed up for this*) but not names. After you RSVP, the first names of people on each spot appear (unless the host has hidden the guest list). Waitlisted guests aren't Going, so they can pledge supplies but can't claim roles until a spot opens.

Tabs above the list narrow it: **All**, **Roles**, **Supplies**, **Zones** (if the host set up zones), and **Urgent**. Long lists collapse behind **Show all N items**.

## Claim a spot

1. Tap **Sign up** on a role or supply.
2. **Roles:** pick one or more shift chips (*8 AM–11 AM · 5 left*). Full shifts are greyed out.
   **Supplies:** set how many you'll bring with the stepper; the caption shows how many are still needed.
3. Answer the RSVP question if the sheet asks (see next section).
4. Tap **Claim my spot**, **Claim N shifts**, or **Bring N** (iPhone: **Count me in**). You'll see *You're in — thanks for pitching in!*

**On the web (app.luau.co in any browser — this is also the Android experience):**

If you're not signed in the sheet ends with **Sign in to claim**: *Takes a second — no app download needed.* Tap **Sign in and claim**, sign in with your phone number or email, and your selection is waiting when you come back.

## Going, Maybe, or Can't: what each can do

- **Roles and shifts need a Going RSVP.** If you haven't RSVP'd, or you're a Maybe, the sheet says *Claiming a shift counts you as going — we'll RSVP you Going* and does it for you when you claim.
- **Supplies only need an answer.** If you haven't RSVP'd, the sheet asks **Will you be there?** with two chips: **I'm going** and **Can't make it, but I'll send this**. Either one lets your pledge through. So yes: **someone who isn't coming can still bring supplies.**
- Already RSVP'd Maybe? You can pledge supplies without being asked again.

## Changing your RSVP later

If you change your RSVP away from Going, your **role and shift sign-ups are released** so the host can refill them, and you'll see a note. Your **supply pledges stay on the board** (*Your N supply pledges are still on the board*). Cancel those separately if you can't bring them any more.

## Overlapping shifts

If you pick two shifts at the same time, or one that collides with a shift you already hold on another role, the sheet says *Heads up: … overlap. That's fine if you're covering one of them for someone else — otherwise pick times that don't collide.* It warns; it doesn't block.

## After you sign up

- A **You're in** strip pins your sign-ups above the board with **Change** and **Cancel** on each, and an **Add to calendar** button that downloads every claimed shift as calendar events.
- Cancel asks **Cancel your sign-up** (*Your spot goes back to the board so someone else can grab it. You can sign up again any time.*).
- Once you hold something, a **Want to do more?** row offers **Take another role** and **Bring supplies**.

## Things guests sometimes expect that aren't there

- No notes field on a sign-up. If you need to tell the host something, message them directly.
- No **Maybe** option inside the supply question; it's **I'm going** or **Can't make it**.
- Hosts see your name and RSVP status on their roster, never your phone number or email.

## Frequently asked

**Q: Do I need to download an app to sign up?**

No. The board opens in any browser from the invite link. The iPhone app shows the same board if you have it.

**Q: Do I need an account to sign up?**

Yes, a quick one. The sheet says Sign in to claim; you sign in with your phone number (or email) and a six-digit code, and your picks are kept while you do it.

**Q: Can I sign up if I'm not coming?**

For supplies, yes: when the sheet asks Will you be there? choose Can't make it, but I'll send this. Volunteer roles and shifts need a Going RSVP.

**Q: Can I sign up for more than one shift?**

Yes. Pick as many shift chips as you like, on one role or several. If two overlap, the sheet warns you but lets you continue.

**Q: How do I cancel or change my sign-up?**

Use the You're in strip above the board: Change reopens the sheet, Cancel frees the spot. You can sign up again any time.

**Q: What happens to my sign-up if I change my RSVP to Maybe or Can't?**

Your role and shift sign-ups are released so the host can refill them. Supply pledges stay on the board; cancel them separately if you can no longer bring them.

**Q: Can I see who else signed up?**

After you RSVP you see the names on each spot (unless the host hid the guest list). Before that you see counts only.

**Q: Can I add a note to my sign-up?**

No. If the host needs to know something, message them directly.
